Theoretical Orientation and Special Interests
I work with adults and couples and also offer family therapy. Working with a variety of people from a multitude of backgrounds and cultures, I deal with a variety of human experiences and difficulties including mood and anxiety disorders, relationship difficulties and stress-related difficulties. I also work with trauma, childhood themes, grief, emotional neglect, low self-worth and struggles with identity and loss of self.
I believe that for therapy to be successful, it must be tailored for the specific needs of the individual, couple or group and my therapeutic conceptualization is drawn from a multitude of theories and therapies including the following: Person-Centered and Supportive Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Transactional Analysis, Systems Theory and Existential Psychotherapy. I have a special interest in the areas of self-worth, authentic self-expression and relationships and I believe that there is a connection between mind and body and base my focus on overall health and well-being.
Training and Qualifications
I completed my undergraduate BA degree in Child and Family Psychology (cum laude) at the University of Johannesburg, and then completed my BA Honours Degree in Psychology (cum laude), also at the University of South Africa. During my training I worked as a telephonic counsellor and lay counsellor. I completed my Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology at the University of South Africa, which is a two-year course, including experience at a Community Clinic, Family Advocate and University Psychotherapy Clinic. Following the completion of my Masters Degree, I completed a year Internship at Sterkfontein Psychiatric Hospital in Krugersdorp. I then completed my year of Community Service at Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital in Newclare. I have since been in private practice at the Therapy and Wellness Rooms in Pineslopes and completed a course in Family Mediation in 2019.
